Revisiting Friday Fives

20 May

After a special request [thankyou Katherine] I have decided to bring back Friday Fives with a few little changes.

They will be now be known as Firday Fives.  Due to increasingly bad spelling errors while typing I always seem to get my letters mixed about.  I don’t know if it’s old age or dyslexia but Friday always ends up on the page as Firday and I’ve actually come to like this new word.  It conjures up cute little drawings of (fir) trees and small creatures.  Ok now that you think I’m totally mad…

So this is the basic rundown

1. Food glorious food; this could be something I’ve eaten, cooked, baked, seen a new recipe for, a favorite etc you get the picture right?

2. Music; oldies, newies and everything else inbetween.

3. Books/tv/movies/games

4. a gizmo, gadget, thing or product

5. a cool/interesting/creative/funny website or blog

The week will run Friday to Thursday with the post on Friday.  As time goes by these catergories may overlap each other but that’s all good.  We’re not going for some strict list or anything like that.  Now I do invite all of you, my dear readers to participate by jotting down their own Firday Fives in the comments section below each post.  I would love to know what they are!  And who knows, we may even enrich each others lives.

Ok see you on firday

1. I made this easy delicious banana choc pudding pie from instructables, I had to make my own base from butter and crushed bikkies as I couldn’t find a pre made base anywhere.  I’ll definetly make it again for those times when you have to bring dessert to dinner because it’s so quick.

2. I bought Fleetwood Mac‘s best of from the new WOW Sight and Sound store in Shep.  All those wonderful songs I loved and didn’t even realise it was FM that sang them – how rapt was I?  It’s on high rotation at home.  Who am I kidding, I don’t have a multi disc system, I don’t even have a high fi stereo, it’s just a little cd player.  But hey it does the job!

3. hmm it’s been a boring week entertainment wise I tell you.  I did enjoy watching House the other night.  I never liked him when it first came, thought he was a bit of a “tosser” but now I am a fan.  Keep forgetting to watch Private Practice on Sunday nights, is it still on?

4. thinking of changing this catergory as I think “product” is too wanty/consumerish.  Might make it “thing” instead?  So for this week it was to be Halloween!  I was going to throw a Halloween party this year then it was going to be a midnite crop now it’s fizzled out to me and a friend watching scray movies and stuffing our faces.  But next year I’m gunna go all out, just watch me!

5. ideal bite, sign up for a short daily newsletter that gives you tips on being green.  It’s quick to read then hit delete and you might just learn something – I did!

ciao

gosh time flies don’t it?

1. has to be the “cannelloni” (said with thick european accent – I love europe) I made on Wednesday night.  Shae dropped in to say hi and I roped her into helping me stuff the (insert expletive)’s.  It’s the one thing that takes me like for-ages (new word I just made it up!).  So after she’d done half the work I couldn’t tell her to go home, that would’ve been heartless so Shae and Tom satyed for dinner.  I (err we) stuffed ‘em with pumkin, baby spinach and ricotta and poured over a tomato based sauce.  Golly gee it was yum.  I love “cannelloni” (accent again please).

2. I’m not doing too well on the music subject hmmm.  I found myself singing Kylie’s Locamotion while cleaning the shower yesterday.  I’m not a fan of either so it’s quite puzzling.  I do like singing though (not in public) it makes me feel good and happy even if I’m not any good.

3. ahhh well I’ve been entertaining myself as usual reading other people’s blogs.  Wait I have something – on Wednesday I caught up with my dear friends, Relley, Jacqui and Rosie it was a good time had by all.

4. ok so I haven’t tried one yet but I bought some blood oranges and they are sitting waiting to be devoured.  I don’t even know if that’s a word you’d use for blood oranges as I have a sneaking suspicion they may be tart, and who wants to devour a tart?  oops enough said there!

5. I don’t think I’ve talked about them before but they are the magical community of instructables a place where you can learn, teach and sit there with your jaw hanging open.  There’s so many instruction for things to make and i’m not just talking crafty, I mean cooking, science stuff, sewing, basically anything,  It’s a fantastic resource and my next to-do is this little 5 min chocolate cake recipe.  I’ll let you know how it goes…

friday fives 17/10

17 Oct

Another week has flown by..

1. Went to the Bullion Bar Stonegrill on Tuesday night with James and we cooked our own steak at our table.  We’d never been before and it was a weird experience.  Large serves, good sides but not sure if we’d go again.

2. hmmm this is a hard one this week as I haven’t really been paying attention to music.  I’ll just nominate an all time fave; Billy Joel, he is fabulously talented and still rockin.  Love pretty much all of his songs!

3. James and I watched 21 on dvd it’s the one about the MIT card counters.  The idea was there but I feel this movie failed to deliver, it just needed a bit more of something….

4. Green and Blacks Organic chocolate in a darker shade of milk.  Scrumptious.  I’m yet to graduate to loving the real dark pure stuff but this milk chocolate has 34% cocoa solids which is a bit more than Cadbury’s 26% and they use organic raw sugar cane not the cruddy refined sugar that’s in most chocolates, you really can taste the difference.  This chocolate lends itself to sitting on your tongue and melting in your mouth slowly making one peice last almost forever.  Quality not quantity is the key here!

5. Aussie Soap Supplies – I want to start making my own goodies so I know exactly what’s in them (no toxic rubbish) and this is the place to shop.  Haven’t bought anything yet as I just can’t decide but the prices are great and there’s just about everything you need to make soaps, creams, candles, shampoo the list goes on.  And on.  And on!  Thinking I’ll put an order in soon so I can make some Christmas pressies, how good will that be.

Ok looking forward to getting some pics up here this weekend and writing a longer post!

friday fives (a wink early)

9 Oct

Yes it’s still Thursday but I have a mazillion things to do tomorrow before I leave for Stamp Camp so I may not have time to post.

1. homemade baked potatoes with bacon, onion, cheese, coleslaw and sour cream.

2. no sex for ben – the rapture, ignore the title and have a listen, tis great

3. HEROES HEROES HEROES  it was so damn good, yes worth the teasing wait

4. my pillow even though it’s not my perfect pillow – Bella had a “accident” on my last pillow and it was pretty worn out flat anyway.  I don’t think I could live without a pillow.

5. photojojo.com – cool photo website with projects and great links to things, I haven’t even explored the whole thing yet.  Fab ideas and things to make.

later peeps  (I wish I was this cool but I’m not)

friday fives (a bit late!)

28 Sep

Sorry folks I forgot all about my fives – and no-one reminded me either – tsk tsk.

1. I made this yummy spaghetti from Super Food Ideas magazine, it was grated zucchini, thinly sliced bacon, garlic and lemon zest fried up then tossed into some spaghetti with a sploosh of olive oil, served with a gate of parmesan.  It was so yummy, better  than I expected.  Even the boys ate it and our friend Clint doesn’t like zucchini (I didn’t tell him it was in it)

2. got to be Ladykillers “Paris is Burning”, wicked cool song

3. Shae made me watch August Rush and it was the best movie I’ve seen in ages – go rent it if you haven’t seen it, you won’t be dissapointed.  Keep the kleenex handy though.

4. google maps – can’t live without this great invention

5. design freebies – they collate the cool free trendy downloads so you don’t have to waste time trolling through the cruddy ones

so there you have it

later

friday fives

19 Sep

as I sit here munching my coco pops (not my usual breakfast food) I’m thinking I need a list day, you know where we all write a little list on a certain day?  So welcome to friday fives and here are the catergories…

1. food of the week – what had you begging for more?

2. music – what’s been tickling your ears fancy?

3. books, movies, tv, games – what kept you entertained?

4. thing – what product are you loving right now?

5. website of the week – found anything interesting?

okay so the list is relevant on the past week from Saturday to today; Friday and every Friday we put up our new list.  So mine will be here somewhere and I’ll try not to forget and you guys just write yours in the comments.  Easy right?  Here we gooooooooooooooooo

1. home made salad sandwiches with beetroot, mmmmmm it feels like summer already

2. Electric Feel by MGMT sooo funky love it love it love it

3. can’t remember which night it was but we got out the old Pictionary and Scattergories and had a ball

4. I have to mention my favorite lip balm of all time, Burts Bees Beeswax Lip Balm, can’t get enough of that menthol tingle ahhhh

5. absolutely must shout out to threadless, they make tee shirts designed by anyone who wants to have a go, they are wicked cool.  I have three and I know I should have bought a bunch more when the aussie dollar was good but funds were tight.  Yep they are an American deal but the prices are actually not bad if you compare them to print tees from some of our middle range trendy stores.  Here’s a crazy story; I was wearing my threadless Motovino tee on a trip to Myrtleford (pop. 3500) when a teenage guy came up wearing the same tee (all designs are unisex) how out there is that?  I felt like we were in an exclusive “cool” club, it was so fun.

See how easy was that?  Ok now it’s your turn – can’t wait to see your friday fives.

Catcha

Kris

ps I just checked out threadless and Motovino is going for USD$9.00 in a girly size XL – about our 12-14
